11 Tips to Paint a Room

11 tips to paint a room

Painting a room transforms the look of a house and is a really satisfactory thing to do. Like everything, painting a room is easy to do once you know how. Here’s our top tips to make the process and easy as possible

1 - Plan by picking a colour that suits best

2- Use good tools - using good brushes and rollers make the job easier and improves the finish. We recommend going to a trade centre where painters shop and buying the same brushes and rollers professionally painters use

3 - Buy good paint - good paint is worth the money. There are two types of paints that we recommend using - trade paints and premium paints. Trade paints are the trade ranges all leading paint brands sell to professional painters. Premium paint brands cost a lot more money

4 - Remove all loose items and furnishings from the room and move the furniture out from the walls so as there’s enough room to paint the walls comfortably

5 - Dust sheets - place drop/ dust sheets on the furniture and floor

6 - Rub Down - rub the ceiling, walls and woodwork down with sandpaper

7 - Fill - fill the ceiling and walls with interior wall filler, put decorators caulk into and cracks that run along joints or corners

8 - Touch Up - before painting the ceiling or walls touch up the area you filled before you paint the ceiling or walls

9 - Get painting - paint the ceiling followed by the walls and then the woodwork. You will need to apply at least 2 coats of paint on each surface

10 - Wet Edge - keep a wet edge this means paint around the edges first but it in such a way that the paint doesn't dry in around the edges before you roll the wall

11 - Tidy Up - tidy up after the paint is dry. Don’t pick up dust sheets or sweep the floor while the paint is wet sd there’s a chance the dirt will stick to the wet paint
